Byron and Gail Bitar started A Cook’s Wares catalogue company in the basement of their home in 1981. By 1990 they had moved their company to a warehouse, and by 1998 had added a website and a store to their operation. Byron was a full-time Philosophy professor at Geneva College while developing the catalogue and the website. He was also involved in choosing products and in marketing.
After Byron’s death in June of 2003, Gail, along with the loyal employees, continued to operate all three divisions of the company. Now in 2011, Gail has decided to pare down the business to just the retail store, so she can have more time to enjoy friends and family, as well as her work.
So come in to our store, which is located in Beaver, Pennsylvania. Sharon, Linda and Gail will enjoy meeting you and helping you choose good things for your kitchen.

Founded more than four decades ago in 1967 in Beaver, PA, 30 miles northwest of Pittsburgh, the Beaver Area Heritage Foundation has achieved local, statewide and national recognition for its dedication to the preservation and celebration of the people, places and events of Beaver’s rich history.
Since its humble beginnings, the Heritage Foundation and its award-winning museum have grown to an organization of more than 450 members, and have become an important force in the community.
Jason & Christine Benegasi had wanted to open a fine dining restaurant in Beaver county for some time, but had been unable to find a good location. When they realized that there was a space available on the main street in Beaver, they knew that this was the perfect home for their restaurant concept, Biba. They never imagined that they would be so welcomed by everyone in Beaver.
“The residents and other business owners have gone out of their way to make us feel welcome and we are truly grateful.”
Biba is an upscale, seasonal Latin restaurant. The menu continually changes, because it is based on the freshest ingredients that are currently in season. They also focus on using local ingredients and vendors. All of the food is fresh and made to order.

The executive Chef, David Plankenhorn, is constantly coming up with new and innovative menu ideas influenced by South America, Central America and the Caribbean. Chef David previously worked under Lidia Bastianich and was a chocolatier. Currently he teaches sushi classes at Sweetwater Center for the Arts.

Kristi Harper, owner of Cafe’ Kolache, spent 11 years in Houston, Texas and it was there that she, like many others, came to appreciate this “fun-food” of the Czech people. The Texas cities of Austin, Dallas and Houston have numerous Kolache shops; and Kolache Festivals are annual events in towns like Caldwell and West, Texas. However, while the Czech culture is a notable one in the Pittsburgh, PA area, until now the Kolache is most often enjoyed by families in their own homes using great-grandma’s recipe.

Two floors of creativity, imagination and adventure! We have educational toys, toys for the learning disabled, toys just for fun, games for family game-nights and puzzles for those rainy days. The store is bright, clean and meticulously neat. Many of our products are out of their packages so you can see and feel them. Our customers often bring their friends and out-of-town guests to experience what they call “the best toy store in Beaver County.”
The business is completely independent and locally owned. We appreciate your hard-earned local dollars and do our best to provide the finest, safest and highest quality toys and games available. The last time we counted, we had 1500 line items under $10 each. You’ll find something you like.

Linda Lyden is our founder and owner. She started the business in 2005 when her daughters went off to college. Unique toys and games have become her passion as she spends all of her time searching the world (mostly from her office) for your next, favorite game and toy. Linda is usually at the store, so if you’d like to meet her, she won’t be hard to find.
The folks you’ll find working at the store are family friends or customer-friends we’ve hired. We enjoy a working friendship and it shows throughout the store. All of them are cheerful, caring and glad to help you find exactly the right gift. We couldn’t do it without them!

In 1975, Henry Kretchmar Jr. came back to Beaver to take over the bakery, which his father had run successfully for 15 years. Hank made improving the business his life’s work. With trips to Europe and around the country, he gathered the best ideas the baking industry had to offer and brought them back and put them to work. He also became a Certified Master Baker through the Retail Bakers of America. By doing this he was able to steward the small retail shop through one of the worst economic down turns in Western PA’s history. Through his experiences he decided to focus the business on decorated cakes and specialty tortes like Beaver County’s favorite, Toasted Almond Torte.

Kretchmar’s Bakery recently celebrated it’s 50th anniversary and recently passed to the third generation. It is currently managed by Lincoln Kretchmar, third generation baker and Hank’s son. Lincoln came back to the business in 2003 at the urging of his father. Having worked in the tech industry for a number of years, he has brought with him a special skill set to the bakery and helped to modernize the way the bakery does business.
Kretchmar’s Bakery carries a full line of products – everything from cookies to wedding cakes. Specialty tortes are available every day. Special occasion decorated cakes, i.e. birthday, holiday, etc. are baked fresh and hand decorated by experts. Kretchmar’s baked goods are prepared from scratch, just like the way your grandmother used to make. Doughs are still formed into products by hand. Only the finest and richest ingredients are used in Kretchmar’s products. This ensures a quality product at a fair price.

Even as a young boy, Anthony Fratageli always dreamed of owning a “true family restaurant” that encompassed the “Old-World” traditions and values handed down over generations in Italy. With his career established, he followed his heart, and returned to his hometown where he met and married lovely Anna Levanti. The young couple returned to America and settled in Aliquippa where they still reside today. Soon after, they were blessed with a daughter, Tina, and then a son, Dino. In 1998 his dream became reality, and they honored their new venture after Anna’s maiden name.

In, 2012 Levanti's was hand-picked to be featured on an episode of Chef Gordon
Ramsay's "Kitchen Nightmares". Chef Ramsay and his crew came and set up at the
restaurant from June 2-8th, 2012. After a fun, hectic week, Chef Ramsay
transformed us into an "American Bistro" after several discussions with the
residents of our community.
